Bathing pets is about keeping them clean and also about knowing what's best for their coat, skin, and overall comfort. But how often should you actually bathe your dog and cat?
For dogs, the sweet spot is usually every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on breed, coat type, and how active they are. Dogs with oily skin or those that love messy play might need more frequent baths. On the other hand, overbathing can dry their skin, so it's best to use a mild pet shampoo and avoid too much scrubbing.
Cats, especially indoor ones, rarely need baths. They are natural groomers, spending hours each day keeping themselves clean. But long-haired breeds, older cat, or those who get into something sticky or smelly might occasionally need a helping hand. In those cases, a gentle, cat-safe shampoo and a quick rinse usually do the trick.
When in doubt, speak to your vet or groomer. A clean pet is great, but a comfortable, well-cared for one is even better.
