Coal fired\n\t\t\t\t\t\tforges heat the blades to just the right temperature and skilled smiths go to work\n\t\t\t\t\t\tshaping the basic blade profile and shape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\u003ch2 class=\"mdTitle\"\u003eHand Ground\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\u003cp\u003eThe forged blades are then ground, by hand, to near their final shape. Any\n\t\t\t\t\t\tinconsistencies in the swords overall shape or distal taper is corrected and the balance\n\t\t\t\t\t\tadjusted. The sword is now ready for heat treatment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\u003ch2 class=\"mdTitle\"\u003eHand Finished\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\u003cp\u003eAfter careful heat treat\n\t\t\t\t\t\tment (hardening and tempering) in either Hanwei's digitally\n\t\t\t\t\t\tcontrolled ovens or salt baths as needed the blades are either polished on the grinder\n\t\t\t\t\t\tor hand polished in the case of the higher end swords. Once complete the blades are\n\t\t\t\t\t\tnow ready to be precision\n\t\t\t\t\t\tfit to the hilt pieces.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\u003cp\u003eHanwei is one of the only sword makers that produces all of their fittings (handle and\n\t\t\t\t\t\tscabbard components) in house. From design to production the entire process is\n\t\t\t\t\t\thandled at Hanwei, ensuring a high level of design, fit and finis\n\t\t\t\t\t\th. The fittings begin life\n\t\t\t\t\t\tas hand engraved wax, from those a precision mold is made to copy the original in\n\t\t\t\t\t\tevery way.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThe precision molds are used to make positive wax copies of the originals, these are\n\t\t\t\t\t\tcoated in a special sand mix in a multi\n\t\t\t\t\t\t-\n\t\t\t\t\t\tstep proces\n\t\t\t\t\t\ts. The hardened sand casings are\n\t\t\t\t\t\theated to melt the wax positives leaving a cavity ready for molten steel.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThe solid steel and sand casings are broken apart, leaving a lot of clean\n\t\t\t\t\t\t-\n\t\t\t\t\t\tup work to\n\t\t\t\t\t\tprepare the part for fitting.
